When there's an active leak at that location, the still water draws the dye toward the opening in a characteristic streaming pattern that's clearly visible to the naked eye. Dye testing is how we confirm whether a crack in your plaster is cosmetic or actively losing water, and how we verify skimmer and return fitting leaks before recommending repairs.

Dye testing is non-destructive, requires no draining, and can be performed anywhere on the pool shell or at any fitting accessible at the current water level. It's one of the most cost-effective and definitive confirmation tools available.

Method 3: Electronic Ground Listening Equipment

For underground plumbing leaks in pressurized lines, electronic acoustic listening equipment lets us hear what we can't see. Escaping water under pressure creates a distinctive high-frequency sound as it pushes through a crack or joint failure in a buried pipe. Ground microphones — sometimes called geophones or acoustic listening devices — amplify these sounds through the soil so our technicians can walk a grid over suspected leak areas and identify the precise point of highest sound intensity.
